LFC 2021/22 | Dare we dream?

Article by Kenny

In 2019-20 we dared to dream and proved to the world we are still there atop our perch. Now with an emphatic three points won in our first match, dare we to dream once more?

We start this season with a relatively easy beginning - are there any easy games in the premier league. We know surprises can happen and if injuries kick in again all predictions go out the window.

Last season no one would have expected we could lose six games on the run at home after Christmas which suggests there are not any easy games and anything can happen. Our fixtures begin as:

Norwich A - three points there, job done.

Burnley   H

Chelsea  H

Potentially a maximum point hall at this stage, although Chelsea with their expensively acquired squad are capable of winning at Anfield.

Then we hit one of the international breaks and we never do particularly well on the back of those but the fixtures are relatively kind after the break.

Leeds       A

C Palace  H

Brentford  A

With the exception of Leeds away we can reasonably expect full points from the other two games. Leeds away could be a possible draw.

It would not be unreasonable to say 16 points out of the potential 18 is possible at this stage.

Just before the second international break we have Manchester City at home. Another possible draw to add with Chelsea, I would predict a loss if it was an away fixture.

That second draw would leave us with 17 out of the first 21 points up until mid October.

If all the predictions go to plan you would expect us to be top or at least in the top three at this point.

Looking beyond, the period around Christmas appears far more difficult.

Tottenham   A

Leeds          H

Leicester     A

Chelsea       A

Most pundits are picking Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United as top four come season's end and I haven't seen anyone predicting we'll win the premier league. It may well not happen but, that was said in the 2019-2020 season before we defied the odds........
