LFC News and Rumours

Just a filler article with bits and pieces that have been floating around the net in regards to our beloved football club.  First bit of news our Brazilian trio return to training on Sunday after their extended time off due to making the finals of the Copa America (unfortunately losing 1-0 all because none of them started).  That will then only leave Thiago and Henderson missing from our pre season training, who are due to join the rest of the squad in the up coming week.

Our next friendly match will be a double header against Bologna on Thursday 5th August.  I believe I heard it was going to be 2x 1 hour matches with kick offs scheduled for 3pm and 5pm (BST).  These games may or may not be too soon to see our trio of Brazilians return.  The lads will then get two more "proper" friendlies versus Athletic Club on Sunday 8th August and CA Osasuna on Monday 9th August, I would expect to see close to a full strength squad by the time these two friendlies come around.

Although we lost 3-4 on Thursday in our friendly with Hertha BSC there was some great things that came out of the game.  The return of Virgil van Dijk, the man mountain, The Colossus as well as the England #1 Centre back Joe Gomez.  Both players made it through a 20 minute cameo appearance unscathed.

As for the transfer window not much going on there, so far we have seen the departure of Harry Wilson (12m), Marko Grujic (10.5m), Taiwo Awoniyi (6.5m), Kamil Grabara (3m), Liam Millar (1.3m) and Gini Wijnaldum on a free.  Meaning we have received around 33.3m pounds in sales so far which almost covers the cost of our new larger than life centre back Ibrahima Konate (36m).  We have also loaned out the following academy players; Sepp van den Berg, Glatzel, Adam Lewis, Ojrzynski and Arroyo.

We all hope and wait with trepid anticipation on more arrivals to strength our squad but it is my understanding is that it is an extremely tricky situation due to home grown and foreign player quota's.  Before we can bring any new players into our first team we have to let a few go and I feel this is where the problem exists.  Some players are more than happy to rot away their careers on the bench or in the reserves while taking home a hansom pay packet, where as others want to depart but only for a club willing to offer them similar wages but unfortunately no clubs are coming to the party and willing to take our fringe players for a fair price.  This leaves us in quite a pickle but there's still 31 more days left in the transfer window so cross those fingers and toes and look out for those shooting stars to make a wish.

On the upside Trent Alexander Arnold has signed a lucrative contract extension keeping in a Red shirt till 2025.  TAA has now joined the likes of Salah and VVD as one of the top earners at the club.

I will finish the article by paying our respects to Andrew Devine who passed away this week and became the 97th person to be ruled us an unlawful death due to the injuries he suffered on the heartbreaking day in Hillsborough.  Rest in Peace Andrew Devine, JFT 97.
