Midtjylland v Liverpool | CL group stage | Live fans match thread!

Morning peoples, hope you're all well. As we edge closer to Christmas our fixtures begin to mount up. Fortunately, having secured top spot in our Champions League group we can afford to use this game to rest some players.

In fact with Midtjylland rock bottom of the group and nothing to play for - please don't let them adopt a reckless attitude and cause us further injury - we can field pretty much whoever we like.

There were no injury updates from Jurgen but Oxlade Chamberlain and Shaqiri both trained yesterday. As did midfielders Jake Cain (AM) and Leighton Clarkson (DM).

This game may still be too early for Ox and Shaq but the latter pairing of Cain and Clarkson will be hopeful of some pitch time. Neco and Rhys trained too, as did our young centre-back Billy Koumetio.

Matip and Jones weren't seen in training and seem likely to be rested. That speaks volumes on two fronts. Firstly, just how much bubble wrap Matip requires and secondly, how highly regarded and important to us Jones has become.

With all these things in mind we get a flavour of our possible line-up and it might be fun to see a potential Liverpool team of the future. Here is my elegant eleven along with their ages for reference.

Of course the odds are slim we'll start quite so many youngsters but if nothing else the above is handy in knowing who's who.

Leading up to this tie both team's managers have claimed that despite the result being relatively meaningless they'll be taking it seriously and going for the win. Fingers crossed we manage to keep the favourable results coming, suffer no further injuries and see good performances from the smattering of youth players we'll surely field.

In the meantime, with Nester Liver Bird Spotting posting the occasional Christmas song as part of his greatest Xmas hits list, I thought I'd finish with one of mine.

I'm normally bah humbug toward Crimbo but with this being such a tough year for so many, plus our team still sitting pretty, through so much adversity, perhaps this is one to really celebrate and enjoy.

It's never too early to break out the mince pies and as we continue toward the 25th, dishing out festive shellacings as we go, please feel free to post some seasonal tunes of your own.

Let's hope it's a good one for all.

LiverBird's Scorecast: on the ninth day of December my true love said to me, nil goals for them and four for L F C.
