Liverpool v Ajax | CL group stage | Live fans match thread!

No time to dwell on our last match - drawing a line under that one - we're joint top of the EPL table with three quarters of the season left to play. We don't need to panic. We could however do with some better luck on the injury front.

Heading into a mouth watering European tie, have we had that luck? Well, not really.

During Klopp's press conference he confirmed Thigao's injury is worse than first thought.

Scans initially gave the all clear regards broken bones and we breathed a sigh of relief but unfortunately the weight of the impact has done damage to the knee area. No specific detail yet.

Via Jurgen we do know Thigao is not going to be available for a further few weeks at least. We also know that Milner is a new addition to our treatment room - suffering a hamstring issue against Brighton which will probably keep him out for a month or so.

I won't include all of our injury list as by now we're painfully aware of it but some semi-good news: both Ox and Trent are close to a return. This game will likely be too soon but the next one is realistic.

All said, this fixture cares not for our injury woes, it's an important Champions League match in which we can secure our place in the last sixteen of the competition by winning it.

We missed out at the first time of asking when we lost to Atalanta. On paper Ajax, who've been in table topping form in the Eredivisie, could be a far tougher proposition.

What team might we field to give us our best shot? Here's the one I'd go with.

I think if we play Neco at right-back Ajax will target him and with them scoring goals for fun at present (42 in ten league games) they'll surely focus on our right flank, so I'd use Fabinho.

It's a position he's played before and we've seen him do more than a solid job in multiple roles.

Fabinho also has decent speed and a good passing range with a high level of accuracy which could help our own attack along the right. With the players available this might be our strongest back line.

In midfield it's good news that Henderson's back, he too would help on the right, defensively and offensively. In general as well by keeping possession and tenaciously trying to regain it when lost.

Jones can give us some extra oomph, linking midfield and attack by searching out our front three with his intelligent runs and passing. Gini to sit and recycle the ball as the game dictates.

Up front Mane is the obvious choice on the left and I've gone for Jota on the right instead of Salah because I think he helps out more defensively and could further shore things up on that side.

Favouring the solidity Firmino gives I've not used Salah at all. Instead I've gone for a line-up which could be sufficiently hard for Ajax to play through while retaining enough bite of our own.

Klopp might not agree with my picks and the likelihood is we'll probably see something closer to this.

Alisson; Robertson, Matip, Fabinho, N.Williams, Jones, Henderson, Wijnaldum; Mane, Firmino, Salah.

Which do you prefer or have you another variation you'd like to see and how confident are you?

Liverbird's Scorecast....... ahh what the hey, stranger Anfield miracles have happened... 4-0!
