Top of the World LFC Vs Sheffield United

We are half way through the busy period and so far so good with wins over Leicester and Wolves. With some interesting games over the next couple of days depending on how results go Arsenal could go as low as 16th, but let’s hope that doesn’t happen because it would mean ManU winning a game and no one likes to see that. So let us look who has the unfortunate fate of travelling to fortress Anfield next, it’s this season's surprise package Sheffield United.

Sheffield are currently sitting 8th in the table and as Shaun shared if it wasn’t for VAR, Manchester United and Spurs would be languishing in 8th and 7th and Wolves and Sheffield would be up in spots 5th and 6th. On a side note that same table still has LiVARpool sitting pretty on top.

Sheffield United's John Lundstram is fighting to recover from an ankle injury as he is eager to play on the hallowed turf of Anfield especially being a local lad. Just like Wolves in the previous round, Sheffield are coming off a tough game against Manchester City only a few days ago. Sheffield took the early lead in that match only for the goal to be disallowed by the eye in the sky VAR. Sheffield have had 5 goals chalked off so far this season, the highest of any team in the EPL so it comes with no surprise their coach has been piping up about VAR and calling for an immediate review (preferably before they face LFC). Lets hope this doesn’t have a subconscious effect on the person operating VAR during our match. It's kind of sad when people go mad trying to influence the officials.

Liverpool are missing Matip, Lovren, Clyne, Ox and now Shaqiri who has injured a hamstring and could be out for anywhere between ten days to unknown. So from seven days ago when there was optimistic news about recoveries I now believe reports are saying most won’t be back until next month. Although Klopp did say the following:

"Ox looks good, Joel looks good, Fabinho looks good, Lovren looks good, but not ready yet.  They still need some time"
"They are doing more pitch sessions, running, stuff like that".

So in essence we still have no idea when any of these players will be back but at least they're training more now.

Takumi Minamino has arrived at Anfield and done the rounds meeting a few of the lads and the manager, hope he didn’t leave his boots at home because he might have to don the LFC shirt (#18) sooner than he or Klopp hoped for (Everton FA Cup match is the rumour).

Our starting lineup will be an interesting one as Klopp only made one change after our last three day break so who knows which players will take to the field for our 3rd game in seven days. Sheffield have scored the least amount of goals (23) of the top eight teams but have the equal 2nd best defence in the league only conceding 19 goals, the same as Leicester (LFC scored 47 conceded 14). So with this in mind should Klopp give one or two of our defensive players a rest as it appears we may need more creativity to break down Sheffield.

LFC possible lineup:

Alisson, T2A, Gomez, VVD, RoboCop, Milner, Naby, Lallana, Salah, Bobby, Origi.

Bench: Adrian, Elliott, Hendo, Jones, Gini, Mane, Williams.
