Liverpool player of the month - February

Morning all, sharp and to the point this month - it was Mane. Okay perhaps I need to flesh things out a little bit but come on now, that back heel alone was worthy of a LBN POTM award all by itself. His header was none too shabby either.

All in all I feel that Mane deserves player of the month. I started off the month believing that may turn out to be the case due to him being our only attacker getting stuck in, then I changed my mind after the Utd game in which he was atrocious but then, just when we needed to make a statement of resurgence, Mane turns up again and sets us up to do just that. Trent double A perhaps was MOTM for the Watford game but Mane's initial contribution got us off on the right foot and the rather splendiferous piece of skill that was his back heeled goal must have had a huge bearing on the final outcome. Imagine being a Watford player at that point - you know the night is not going to be yours.

Are there other candidates this month? yes there most certainly are. Henderson has had a very reasonable month which is great to see. Alisson is perhaps my second choice but then he does like to go a bit crazy at times and until he cuts that out, I'm not sure he can win too many POTM awards. Fabinho - some sort of player he's turning out to be but good enough for this month's top dog spot? Not for my money. Robertoson I hear you/Jock cry? Yep no doubt he is in the running, knowing Robbo, quite literally. I like to imagine that's how he does his shopping - at full tilt and I also hear rumour that he prefers to run through drive-throughs than to take his car. February's player of the month though? Maybe, but I am sticking with Mane.

Who else do we have, Salah? Can't see it, he's been really off the pace of late. Better vs Watford and let's hope that improvement continues but over the whole of last month Mane has him beat. Same scenario for Firmino. How about Origi then, some highly valued contributions but surely not enough to win this poll. Working back up the pitch we have Winjinio who always excels but I am joining Timpo in wanting to see a bit more from him offensively; we know he can do it and do it well so no reason why he can't do it more often than once every ten games.

Should we consider our central defence? Virgil is always in a with a shout but I felt he was not quite at eleven elevenths this month just gone. He also missed a match due to suspension which is down to him and hopefully not something we'll see too often. Matip has been somewhat of a revelation to be fair. He does look like Bamby on ice but boy is Bamby turning out to be a good footballer. I think he's superseded Lovren in the pecking order but player of the month? Well let's get voting and find out.

LBN POTM awards to date: Virgil van-Dijk x 3, Xherdan Shaqiri x 1.
