LFC news-bites: new contracts, new players and an injury update

Sturridge-and-Gomez-in-training
G'day mates, thought I'd try a new idea which I'm going to call news-bites: a brief round up of some of the more interesting Liverpool related headlines.

Starting with some good news: it appears that Joe Gomez is soon to be rewarded for his sterling great work in defence with a bumper new contract deal.

His current contract expires in 2021/22 but Liverpool are reportedly impressed enough with his performances this season that they're looking to have him put pen to paper in a new deal which will secure his future at the Club.

It seems certain that any such new deal would include a pretty decent hike in wages and I hear echoes from the past yelling that we shouldn't be rewarding players for merely doing their jobs, lest it go to their heads and their performance then suffer as a result. What do we think then people's, deal or no deal?

In other news Jan Molby thinks Abdoulaye Doucoure would be an "absolutely sensational signing for Liverpool"

Although he then goes on to say "every time I have seen him, he has admittedly looked a bit sloppy." Umm, maybe just me but I'm picking up mixed signals there. According to Jan though, that sloppiness could be ironed out by training and playing with high quality players and he thinks Liverpool is the right place for Doucoure to do just that.

Jan also goes on to suggest that midfield is the one area in which we're still a little short and that Doucoure is a modern midfielder of the exact mould we require to address that shortfall.

Doucoure himself recently told Canal+ "Liverpool is a club that needs no introduction" and "I was impatient to play there at Anfield, I wanted to feel the atmosphere. For me it would be a dream to play in a club like this."

Along with Spurs, Liverpool are supposedly interested in signing Doucoure and maybe this could be a potential January transfer in the making. Some player info:

Doucoure is 1830mm in height which I think qualifies as colossal. He's 25 years old, a right footer who's main position is central midfield but can also play attacking and defensive midfield. His current market value is 15 million euros and his career totals to date are: apps - 193, goals - 26.

Jan lists Doucoure's qualities as being very fast to cover ground, reading the game well and putting that vision to good use by making lots of quality forward passes. He also believes he has a lot of untapped potential and that coming from an EPL team means he could hit the ground running at LFC.

Lastly some injury news ahead of our trip to London to meet the Gunners.

As reported directly by LFC, Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Jordan Henderson and Naby Keita will both miss tomorrow's game.

Our two aforementioned midfielders are both suffering hamstring issues but the good news is they're both also set to return to training soon and the further good news, is that Jurgen is quoted as saying Mo Salah, who has been seen this week wearing a bandage on his right wrist, is fine for tomorrow's game. Apparently the tendon inflammation (this all seems tailor made for Jay) will not influence his play, so that is a relief.

There we have it then, no big shocks really and it seems likely we'll be setting up in a similar fashion to our last couple of games which will of course result in...

Arsenal 0 - 4 Liverpool ;-)
