Encouraging words from our American owner as John Henry backs Liverpool to have a special season. His FSG owned baseball team, Boston Red Sox, won the World Series on Sunday and Henry, who along with Tom Werner also owns Liverpool, explained why he believes they can do similarly well this season.

As reported in the Echo Henry told American TV,

“Kiev was painful. But getting there, you could say we’re a little ahead of schedule,”

He went on to say why he believes this season can be different and result in silverware,

“I think Jurgen has solved our defensive issues and we are really strong at the back and really strong in midfield and everyone knows how good we are up front.

“That, as well, is a very special team and it could be a special season.”

Hopefully Henry's words will prove to be prophetic and with us sitting top of the table having played just over a quarter of our Premier League fixtures, there's every reason to believe we can seriously challenge for trophies this season.

Henry is also very right in saying we've solved our defensive woes. We're imperious at the back now; Van Dijk and Alisson have made a real difference which is consistently born out by clean sheet after clean sheet.

On a separate note, whilst mentioning FSG, it would be fair to say they've had a patchy relationship with Liverpool fans but overall I think we can be very happy with our owners to date.

Yes there have been teething problems along the way and they haven't always made the right decisions, particularly in the staff they've appointed but they learnt from those mistakes and now we have a superb manager, a new main stand, hugely increased revenues, year on year improvements on pitch and a real shot at some silverware. Happy days.
