Guest article: What about the kids?

Article by Shaun.

After what can be considered a good campaign without the reward that some of our play has deserved, we are being linked with a much higher calibre of player.

This is clearly exciting times for the club, but where does it leave the Academy players? There is an age old arguement that if they are good enough they will make it, so below is a list of players who have been loaned out and my opinion as to their future.

Connor Randall has played 27 games for Hearts and at 21 he is already way behind TAA. No future with Liverpool. Sell £500k.

Jon Flanaghan has gone from potential new hope to struggling to get game time. At 24 he best leave now and try to join a Championship side. No future with Liverpool. Sell £2-3m.

Taiwo Awoniyi has had a pretty good season in the Belgium top league, helping them avoid relegation and having 17G/A in 31 games. At 20 he now needs to step up to the next level. Next move Ligue 1. May have a future with Liverpool FC.

Ben Woodburn is only 18 but already looks like he has a future with Liverpool FC. 8 G/A in EPL 2, also scoring for Wales. Next move League 1. Possible Liverpool future.

Ryan Kent has really seen the wheels fall off the wagon. From looking like a very promising young player, even going on tour with the first team squad, he now can’t get into Championship sides. His best spell was at Coventry City in League 1, which is probably his level. No future with LFC so sell for £500k.

Ovie Ejaria had an average time at Sunderland, but looks like being given a life line with Gerrard at Rangers, he needs this to work. At 21 he has time but not much. No future with Liverpool.

Lazar Markovic needs to go back to Portugal, and fast. If we are lucky we may get £5m, but to be truthful I would just let him go. No future in football if he stays much longer.

Sheyi Ojo has had 6 G/A in 24 games for Fulham which is not bad, and another year at the same club could be really good for him. Needs a much better return next season though. No future at Liverpool.

Harry Wilson had a great time at Hull, scoring 7 in 13 which is very good, and having scored for Wales he needs to follow this up with a good full season. Short term needs another loan period to either a Championship or EPL side, but needs game time. If he has a good 18/19 season may have a future with Liverpool.

Pedro Chirivella has had a good season at Willem II in the top flight of Dutch football, playing in 35 games. At 21 he needs to move up a level so trying to secure a team in Ligue 1 is required. Possible future at Liverpool.
