Week in Review: April 23, 2018

Hi all! I've been thinking of ways to add regular content, and got this idea from reading some other (non-LFC/football) sports forums. The aim is to just summarize some of the more notable news over the course of the week. If you guys think it's a good idea, I can continue it. I may have missed some things this week, but I didn't plan on writing this till recently, so in the future it might be more comprehensive.

The Match

On Saturday, we endured a disappointing draw to West Brom, as I'm sure most know by now. There's not too much to say, other than we did well to grab a 2-0 upper-hand, and also did well to choke it up. There were some mixed performances all over the pitch, and surely even with lessened priority on the EPL with our CL run, we should have been able to see off a relegation fighting side after grabbing a good lead. Post match commentary by JockInTheKop can be found here.

A side note, everyone's favorite Egyptian notched another goal to tie the EPL 38 game record. Surely we'll be witnessing some history very soon!

2018 - 2019 Home Kit

LFC released images and modelling (courtesy of the more photogenic members of the squad) of next year's home kit. Personally I generally like them, but there definitely are some differing opinions. The general consensus though seems to be that this year's is much better. There is no word on when the away and third kits will be revealed officially, but leaks can be found around the web.

Another side note, Emre Can is not included. But Milner, Lovren, Ingsy, and other aren't either.

PFA Awards

Mo Salah holding his PFA player of the year trophy

He looks happy, but I doubt his appetite is satiated yet! Mo beat out competition for the Player of the Year award, and rightfully so. Even De Bruyne voted for him in an admittedly awesome show of class. Sane won Young Player of the Year, though I don't really think there was much competition in that (except maybe Sterling). I don't think anyone actually cares about the other awards, but the PFA Award link can be found here.

Transfer Rumors

There have not really been too many concrete developments on the transfer front, but that's okay since it's still April. Jorginho, Allison, and Lemar are still in the will he/won't he phase of their LFC relationship, and that doesn't seem to be changing any time soon.

Significant "new" links include CB Clément Lenglet (Sevilla) and GK Jan Oblak (Atl. Madrid). The latter seems much more exciting than the former, but in truth both have something to offer. I personally have some reservations over Lenglet though, as I wasn't impressed in our meetings with Sevilla recently.

The strongest rumor to date seems to be CM Dani Ceballos (Real Madrid). It's been reported that we have struck a deal, though there is a bit of skepticism in that. I really like the look of him, and the circumstances seem to mirror that of a certain Brazilian's arrival, so fingers crossed.

Lastly, there has been a recent swirl of rumors for Championship players. The trio of James Maddison, Ruben Neves, and Ryan Sessegnon have all been touted about, and while each would seem to be a solid addition, I don't think I'd be the only one disappointed if we made more than 1-2 additions from the league below. To be fair, Maddison had a stellar season, Neves has been a bright prospect out of Portugal for years, and Sessengnon is a still a teenage phenom (special mention to Wilson blowing expectations out of the water too). Perhaps this is a sign of general quality of English football on the rise.

ICC: 2018 Preseason

For all of my fellow LFC fans who live a pond away from Anfield, the schedule for the ICC has been released. Full details can be found here. There are some great matchups, even aside from LFC, so it looks to be quite the exciting summer indeed!

Looking Ahead

HUGE match coming up tomorrow! We admins need to coordinate who's posting what, but we will hopefully have a thread up in time. Allez!

Site Updates

  • The poll for voting on a permanent name/URL is still up on the sidebar, which can be accessed from the homepage. Please vote or leave comments, we want as much input as possible!
  • Liverpool-Kop.com is back up. It turns out there was a network aliasing issue. JK has left a note at the top of his page. Do what you want.
  • As referenced above, Admins do not have an actual posting schedule as of now, so posts may be a bit unorganized until this is worked out. Please bear with us.
Lastly, just a special shout out to all the Admins who volunteered to help out over the past week. I'd say this little experiment is going amazingly well!
